Traversing through a single log bridge.
This is the most dangerous years of a woman’s life, as she is coming to her power. It is froth with pitfall of growth, sickness, rage, and self-discovery. On top of the entire internal biological turmoil overlays the cultural biased of the United State’s pervasive youth, sexual/reproductive potency obsession. This is a culture that worships the body of a teenager, the breasts of a pregnant mother and now emerging the martial art skill of a Bruce Lee. The composite woman is so far remove from reality and nature yet many strives to accomplish it to their detriment
Alchemical topography
The reversal of feminine growing toward strength. From the west, it returns to the east, from the masculine to the feminine. Compare to the male, the woman at this point becomes very strong and free. It is at this point that the inner landscape is overwhelmed with the internal fire.
Woman at this point is important to realize that their internal fire must be corrected. What is the internal fire, who must bring their fire down and restore themselves to state of tranquility.
The play of fire and water is the hexagram of delicate balance, turning point and a kind of death. Woman will emerge from this point on a new identity, a returning to the pre-menarche child. Their breasts will shrink, their focus on life return back to the self and not toward the creation of a family or raising children. This is changing as women delay their childbearing age from the teens to early thirties. Therefore, by their late forties and fifties, they would still have the responsibility of raising a young family. This is good, for it gives them a sense of purpose and the menopause of such young mother will be less if for a woman whose children had all grown up and left home to college.
Moreover, if the woman has daughters, their pheromones will help to preserve her feminine reproduction to a point. It is interesting that how daughters at this point will instinctively support their mother in positive comments of their attractiveness and qualities of feminine. While toward the father, the young daughter will seek to distance themselves from the male by making him feel cumbersome and non-sexual almost to the point of making a Goofy like image. This is again an instinctive urge of feeling safe in the home by removing the male sexual threat from the father. Since they would have most likely face the assault from their school male classmates.
The rite of passage of menopause is a complex collective dance of the self, with family and the society at large. In the modern western society in the U.S., there is neither clear passage nor even acknowledgment of menopause. It is often treated as a kind of sickness. Very much like the baldness of men, the menopause is view as life threatening and hormonal replacement therapy is often used to avoid this transition.
There is neither celebration nor ritual for a woman going through menopause.
However, under the circumstance, in my work with woman, after they finished their process and reintegration of self is often become possible.
" I woke up one day, and realize that I do not need to carry this life long anger. Why am I angry? If it is merely habitual, I can just drop it."
Menopause is not the end of femininity; rather it is a powerful unfolding of the feminine in its fullness. A returning to themselves.
This is the vision: lotus grows from mud, emerges pure and emanates
heat to attract insects for pollination. The rite of passage of menopause
is this emerging from the mud of social and cultural biases toward the
older women. She must discover her innate pure nature of the feminine.
Emanating heat and warmth, she exudes a new mature sexuality that is a
totality upon herself—not soiled by external male expectations—the sexy
underwear, plastic anorexic models
